The Chiefs of Ontario are bringing Chief and Council, Social Directors and First Nation Technicians together to discuss the review of Bill C-92 An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families ("the Act") and its impact on First Nation communities across Ontario. This gathering will provide an opportunity for communities to share their perspectives, discuss the priorities and needs of their communities, while identifying the supports needed to move forward. These discussions will focus on the following:

  • Community's decision-making process regarding Bill C-92.

  • Experiences accessing Community Well-Being and Jurisdiction Initiatives (CWJI) program from 2018 to 2023, or other federal supports.

  • Challenges, successes, lessons learned, and promising practices.

  • Experiences on how implementation of the Act has impacted children, youth, families, and community services; and

  • Recommendations for strengthening supports available to First Nations pursuing jurisdiction.

The gathering will also allow communities to share their goals, raise concerns, and discuss what is needed to ensure the Act reflects the needs and priorities of First Nation children, youth, families, and communities.

This session is intended for participants in Northern Ontario. We will be hosting a separate session in Toronto for those based in Southern Ontario.
