First Nations, Climate Change and Carbon Governance
First Nations, Climate Change and Carbon Governance
The Chiefs of Ontario Environment Sector will host a webinar on June 10 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. focused on carbon from a First Nations Perspective. This session will feature guest speaker Dr. Deborah McGregor, with invited guest speaker Clare Wark from World Wildlife Fund Canada.
This session will share insights on the importance of First Nations assuming responsibility as carbon managers within their own territories. Discussions will explore how First Nations can continue to care for, restore, conserve, and protect their lands in the face of growing external pressures to extract value from carbon. The session will also consider how First Nations can respond to demands for land use, and how communities may wish to evaluate and assess potential participation in the carbon economy on their own terms.
